ELA Spring Project

Students in an Edgenuity 9th, 10th or 11th grade ELA class are required to complete an outside project worth 10% of their total ELA grade.  The project is due no later than Friday, April 7th.  Students must send me an electronic copy and provide me with a hard copy.  Students may print their hard copy on campus from main lab.

This project is an essay assignment that directly correlates with college applications, resumes and cover letters.  Students must select 1 of the 5 essay prompts from the 2016/2017 Common Application and write a personal narrative, no longer than 650 total words.  This is an opportunity for students to practice the writing structure and skills most colleges request from students applying for admissions.

Students were given the assignment, Common Application tips and the rubric the week of February 27th – March 3rd.  The assignment has been announced daily in main lab the week of March 13th – 17thSince this is actual practice for students tied directly with the Common Application’s published requirements, I will not accept late work and essays longer than 650 words will be scored down.

We will continue to make announcements in main lab reminding students that this assignment is due.  Students have been encouraged to ask staff members for assistance in brain storming, organizing and editingWe will not assist with the final proofreading.
